Oak Grove Plantation is a 160-acre family farm located in New Jersey’s Hunterdon County. It produces a fantastic diversity of vegetables (more than 250 varieties of tomatoes alone!), hormone-free pork and excellent grain products like cornmeal, whole wheat flour, popcorn and wheat berries. Although the farm is not certified organic, the Blews use no pesticides in the production of their vegetables, and the farm is powered by a solar panel system that supplies all of its electrical needs.
Owners Ted and Susan Blew have operated the farm since they purchased it in 1977. Today the family-run operation includes their three children, Eric, Jonathan and Charity. In 1985 the Blews became the first farm family to enter their land into New Jersey’s Farmland Perservation Program. In 2009 the Blews received the River—Friendly Certification from the North Jersey Resource Conservation and Development Council. The program recognizes farmers who take leadership roles as environmental stewards, protecting natural resources through responsible management to build a sustainable business. In 2011 the Blew family received the 2011 Hiram Deats Award, which recognizes Franklin residents who exemplify outstanding practices of conservation, agriculture or community service.
